A scientist from Columbia University has proposed a chilling new theory regarding first contact with aliens.

Dr. David Kipping suggests that instead of a friendly visit or invasion, our first sign of extraterrestrial life might be a signal from a civilization in its final death throes. He calls this the “Eschatian Hypothesis.”

Kipping argues that stable, advanced societies are likely quiet and energy-efficient, making them hard to detect.

Conversely, a civilization in chaos—suffering from nuclear war or climate collapse—would leak massive amounts of energy, making them “louder” and easier to spot from Earth.

He compares this to dying stars that shine brightest just before they disappear.

The theory suggests astronomers should look for sudden, unexplained flashes or signals that indicate a planetary crisis.

While the idea of detecting a civilization’s desperate final cry is disturbing, Kipping believes it might be our most realistic chance of discovering that we are not alone in the universe.
