Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, laid the foundation stone for Afghanistan’s first aluminum can manufacturing plant in Herat’s industrial park.
The major project is being funded by a $150 million investment from the private sector, marking a significant milestone for the country’s industry.
The factory aims to meet domestic demand for beverage and food cans, reducing reliance on imports and saving foreign currency.
Local officials state that the project will create numerous job opportunities for the youth and contribute to the economic development of Herat province.
Supporting private investment remains a key priority for improving the economic situation. Once completed, the factory will help Afghanistan achieve self-sufficiency in food packaging and potentially open doors for exports to neighboring countries.
