The Taliban’s Traffic Department in Herat has announced a comprehensive ban on rickshaws (three-wheelers) on all main and secondary roads in the city .

Set to take effect from Saturday, the restriction applies to all vehicles, regardless of whether they are registered or undocumented .
Officials cite severe traffic congestion and rising accident rates as the primary reasons for the ban .

Authorities noted that while the city’s infrastructure can support fewer than 5,000 rickshaws, there are currently around 100,000 operating, causing chaos on the streets.

The decision has sparked anxiety among thousands of drivers who rely on these vehicles for their daily income .

Many fear that this sudden prohibition will lead to mass unemployment and deepen economic hardships for families in the province.
