On December 27, 2025, the city of Saarbrücken hosted a vibrant “City Cleanliness Festival” to welcome the New Year.
Volunteers gathered at the main station and walked towards Malstatt, collecting litter and transforming the city’s streets into a cleaner, more welcoming space for everyone.
The event was more than just a cleanup; it was a celebration of community and environmental responsibility.
Children who participated with great enthusiasm were honored as “Earth Heroes,” while the friendly atmosphere was filled with “Happy New Year” messages, fostering hope and positivity among all citizens.
Remarkably, this initiative was led for the first time by residents with migration backgrounds, including the Afghan community, in collaboration with the local municipality.
This effort stands as a shining example of social integration and the constructive contribution of Afghans in Germany, setting a precedent for future environmental actions.
