The Dawn newspaper, citing the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), reports that cross-border attacks decreased by 17 percent in December following the closure of borders with Afghanistan.

This comes despite 2025 being labeled the deadliest year for Pakistan in recent history.

Statistics indicate that casualties from terrorist violence among civilians and security forces trended downward in the last quarter of 2025.

Attacks also showed a decrease of about 9 percent in November, which is attributed to the tighter border controls.

While the border closure has created significant trade and economic challenges, reports suggest a direct correlation with improved security.

Pakistan has consistently claimed that militants use Afghan soil for attacks, an allegation the Taliban group denies.
