The patient, known as “u/Tykjen,” turned to the AI after doctors initially misdiagnosed his severe abdominal pain as simple acid reflux.
Grok suggested the symptoms pointed to a perforated ulcer or appendicitis and urged him to get a CT scan.
Upon returning to the ER, the scan confirmed a critically inflamed appendix that was near rupturing, leading to immediate surgery.
This incident highlights the growing potential of AI as a medical support tool. While not a replacement for doctors, Grok’s ability to flag critical conditions proved vital in ensuring the patient received the emergency laparoscopic surgery he needed.
