Local sources in the Chah-Ab district of Takhar province report violent clashes between residents and Taliban-affiliated gold mining companies.
The conflict, which began on Friday and escalated by Monday, January 5, has resulted in the deaths of five locals and one company employee, with 16 others injured.
Residents are protesting against environmental degradation, water shortages, and their exclusion from mining profits caused by “indiscriminate” excavation.
In retaliation, protesters seized several mining sites and set fire to equipment and tents belonging to the companies.
Taliban forces have reportedly besieged the “Samti Block One” area as tensions remain high.
The incident highlights growing public anger regarding the management of natural resources and the environmental impact of mining activities under the Taliban administration.
