Polish border guards reported the arrest of eight Afghan citizens who were allegedly attempting to cross into the country illegally. The apprehensions took place during several distinct security operations conducted along the shared border region with Lithuania over the past weekend.
Security officials revealed that they detained a total of nearly forty irregular migrants during this recent crackdown. The largest single group consisted of two dozen individuals who were found hiding inside a cargo truck driven by a Ukrainian national across a temporary border point.
All arrested migrants lacked the necessary legal documentation to enter Poland and were promptly handed back to Lithuanian authorities. The drivers and smugglers facilitating these illegal crossings have also been detained and could face up to eight years in prison.
