Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, suffered its second major global outage this week, frustrating users across India, the US, and Europe.
Reports of disruption spiked early on January 16, with thousands of users unable to access the mobile app, facing blank screens and endless loading indicators instead of their feeds.
The technical issues extended beyond the app, as desktop users also struggled to load the website. Key features like refreshing timelines, posting tweets, and replying were completely paralyzed for many. Some users were even forcibly logged out of their accounts and faced repeated failures when attempting to sign back in.
Data from outage trackers showed a massive surge in complaints, crossing 65,000 in a very short period. Despite the widespread chaos affecting half of the app’s user base, X has yet to issue an official statement explaining the cause or providing a timeline for when services will be fully restored.
