TikTok is rolling out a new age-detection system across Europe to identify and remove users under the age of 13.

The initiative comes as the platform faces increasing pressure from European regulators to enforce strict child safety measures without violating data privacy laws.

Unlike simple age gates, this new technology analyzes user profiles, posted content, and behavioral patterns to predict a user’s age.

Accounts flagged as potentially underage won’t be instantly deleted but will be sent to human moderators for review, ensuring a layer of fairness in the process.

Users who believe they have been wrongly flagged can appeal by providing government ID or using facial estimation technology.

TikTok states this Europe-specific system is designed to navigate the region’s tough privacy rules, aiming to solve the complex challenge of verifying age online while keeping user data secure.
