Israel has explicitly stated that Pakistan is not welcome to play a role in Gaza’s peacekeeping forces, labeling the country a backer of terrorism. Economy Minister Nir Barkat made these remarks at Davos after Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif joined Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” initiative Barkat emphasized that Israel would not trust countries like Pakistan, Turkey, or Qatar with boots on the ground.
While praising Trump’s framework as superior to the UN’s, Barkat insisted that nations supporting “jihadi organizations” have no place in Gaza’s future. Meanwhile, Sharif’s decision to sign the charter has triggered a political storm back home in Pakistan, exposing deep ideological fault lines.
Opposition parties, including PTI and JUI-F, have slammed the move. Maulana Fazlur Rehman accused the government of committing “shirk” by prioritizing Trump’s appeasement over religious principles, while PTI demanded a referendum, arguing the decision ignores the will of 250 million Pakistanis.
