The Ministry of Public Works has announced that the Salang Pass officially reopened to passenger vehicles as of 2:00 PM today (Tuesday).

This critical highway, connecting Kabul to the northern provinces, had been closed since last Wednesday due to severe snowstorms and dangerous conditions.

The reopening comes as a relief to thousands of travelers and transport operators who were stranded or delayed.

Maintenance crews worked tirelessly to clear the heavy snow accumulation, restoring the vital economic and travel link, although drivers are still urged to exercise extreme caution.

Closures of the Salang Pass often led to price hikes for goods and fuel in the capital. Authorities have advised all commuters to ensure their vehicles are winter-ready and to strictly follow safety guidelines while navigating the icy, mountainous route.
