BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla recently recounted the time Shah Rukh Khan was detained at Newark airport post-9/11 due to his Muslim identity.
Shukla revealed that the superstar called him for help while being held for random security checks that targeted specific names. “He called because… they used to stop anyone’s baggage just by looking at the name,” Shukla explained to ANI.
He noted that during that period, security could not be questioned. Through diplomatic intervention, SRK was released after a two-hour ordeal, highlighting the challenges even global icons faced.
