In a provocative move, Mawlawi Shir Ali Hammad, a cleric closely aligned with the Taliban, declared war against Pakistan during a funeral service for a Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) member in Kabul. Speaking in the Guldara district on Wednesday, he denounced the governments of Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan as “un-Islamic”.
The ceremony was held for Ayub Zakir, a TTP member who died near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border in Kunar. During his speech, Hammad urged the crowd to chant anti-Pakistan slogans and cited the alleged mistreatment of Baluch women as evidence of systematic oppression by Islamabad, signaling a hardening stance among some Taliban factions.
Analysts warn that such public declarations by figures linked to the Taliban leadership confirm the ideological and organizational ties between the Afghan Taliban and transnational militant groups. This development challenges the Taliban’s official diplomatic narrative and is likely to further strain the already fragile relations between Kabul and its neighbors.
