The Taliban Ministry of Interior has reported the seizure of 37kg of opium and 2,700kg of hashish in Farah and Uruzgan provinces. According to the statement released on Thursday, February 5, four individuals were arrested in Farah, and the hashish was burned in Uruzgan. This comes as Taliban representatives in Doha claimed that traditional drug production in the country has dropped to near zero .
Despite these claims, regional concerns persist. Iranian officials stated earlier that drug smuggling from Afghan stockpiles into Iran continues unabated. Conversely, the Taliban expressed concern over synthetic drugs, alleging that the equipment and precursors needed for their production are being smuggled into Afghanistan from abroad, shifting the blame to external actors .
