Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, has accused militant groups based in Afghanistan of attempting to destabilize Pakistan with the backing of foreign powers. Speaking on Monday, Asif stated that despite repeated concerns raised by Islamabad, the Taliban authorities have failed to provide guarantees against the cross-border threat.
Citing the recent deadly suicide attack inside a mosque that killed 33 people, the Defense Minister highlighted the severity of the danger emanating from safe havens across the border. He called for a comprehensive security plan to protect religious sites and emphasized the parliament’s support for strict action against perpetrators.
While the Taliban group consistently denies the presence of foreign terrorists on Afghan soil and dismisses these concerns as baseless, the friction between the two neighbors continues to escalate. The allegations point to a deepening security rift in the region.
