Deputy spokesperson for the Taliban, Hamdullah Fitrat, announced that Pakistani airstrikes early Saturday triggered a massive fire at a commercial market in Torkham. The strikes occurred around 4 AM, engulfing dozens of shops in flames and causing widespread destruction.
Firefighters, municipal water tankers, and local residents have been working tirelessly to control the blaze, but the fire has not yet been fully extinguished. Reports indicate that over 150 shops have burned down, resulting in an estimated 300 million Afghanis in financial losses for local merchants.
Taliban officials highlighted that this is not the first time Pakistan has targeted public infrastructure in the area, causing significant harm to civilians. Border tensions between the two sides continue to escalate, leading to multiple casualties and mass displacements in recent months.
