The Afghanistan Journalists Center said that Mahdi Ansari, a journalist for the Afghan News Agency in Kabul, has been released from Taliban prison after one and a half years. The organization stated that the fundamental rights of this journalist, who was imprisoned and tried for allegedly cooperating with foreign media, were seriously violated.

The Journalists Center, citing a source in Kabul, said Mr. Ansari was released from Bagram prison around 8 PM Wednesday and rejoined his family in Kabul. He disappeared on October 5 after returning from his office in the Pul-e Khishti area of Kabul, and his family confirmed three days later that he had been detained by intelligence.

According to the Journalists Center, the Taliban intelligence agency released a video of Mahdi Ansari's forced confession one year later, announcing that the journalist was detained on charges of poisonous propaganda against the Taliban administration and cooperation with biased foreign media. The organization said Ansari was unfairly sentenced to prison in the absence of an independent defense lawyer. #Afghan\_Journalists #Human\_Rights #Press\_Freedom #Mahdi\_Ansari
