Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that Beijing facilitated these discussions following weeks of intense border clashes. She noted that both the Taliban and Pakistani officials welcomed China's mediation efforts and have reached some preliminary understandings.
This diplomatic move occurs as border conflicts between the two sides enter their fifth week. The United Nations has reported dozens of civilian casualties in eastern Afghanistan since the clashes and airstrikes began in late February.
