Over the past year, at least 96 people have lost their lives in Afghanistan due to explosions from landmines and leftover ordnance. The disaster management authority under the Taliban government reported that 328 others were injured during this period.

According to official data from April 2025 to March 2026, there were 225 incidents related to unexploded devices. Children make up a significant portion of the victims, and Kunar province recorded the highest number of casualties.

Demining teams have successfully cleared over 94 square kilometers of contaminated land. Cleanup operations are primarily focused on residential and agricultural areas where displaced Afghans are currently returning.
