The Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization stated that Afghanistan remains a central focus despite the suspension of its contact group. Nurlan Yermekbayev emphasized that the country's developments are highly significant due to their direct impact on overall regional security.
In a recent interview, he noted that many member countries share borders with Afghanistan and continuously monitor the internal situation. According to him, the halt in the contact group's activities does not imply any reduction in the organization's attention towards Afghanistan.
The Secretary General also addressed the recent border tensions between the Taliban government and Pakistan, confirming they are observing the situation. However, neither side has submitted an official request for the SCO to mediate the ongoing conflict.
