Human Rights Watch has reported that Pakistani authorities have escalated their abusive treatment, arbitrary arrests, and forced deportations of Afghan refugees. This crackdown intensified following recent border clashes between Pakistan and the Taliban government.

The severe police actions have created immense fear among the Afghan community, restricting their access to hospitals, schools, and essential services. Police officers are reportedly detaining refugees during their daily activities, confiscating their cash, and demanding bribes for their release.

Since the start of the year, over 146,000 Afghans have been deported. HRW warns that this mass deportation puts many individuals, including journalists and activists, at severe risk of persecution upon their forced return to Afghanistan.
