The Supreme Court of the Taliban government announced that a man and a woman were publicly flogged in the Khash district of Badakhshan province. Accused of engaging in extramarital relations, each individual received thirty-nine lashes and was sentenced to one year in prison.

The sentences were executed after receiving approval from high-ranking officials of the Taliban government in late April. Reports indicate that over a hundred individuals have faced corporal punishment across various provinces in Afghanistan for different charges since the beginning of the solar year.

Human rights organizations continue to strongly condemn these physical punishments, describing the judicial system as failing to meet international standards. Activists highlight that the accused are often deprived of basic fair trial rights, including access to defense lawyers.
