Recent border clashes between the Taliban government and Pakistani forces have severely disrupted the education of approximately twelve thousand Afghan students. The United Nations confirmed that the persistent fighting has displaced numerous families, forcing children to abandon their local schools and seek safety elsewhere.
In Kunar province, many border villages have been completely emptied of children, and at least twenty-two school buildings require extensive reconstruction after sustaining heavy damage from the crossfire. Local school principals report that children who were once engaged in learning are now deprived of education entirely.
Displaced families currently living in dire conditions along the Kunar River are pleading with the international community for urgent humanitarian assistance. The border tensions have lasted for nearly two months, resulting in civilian casualties and massive infrastructure damage.
