According to the 2026 Global Report on Food Crises, Afghanistan has been ranked as the fifth country in the world facing severe acute hunger. This comprehensive report was jointly published by United Nations agencies and their international partners.

The data reveals that 17.4 million Afghans, representing approximately 36 percent of the entire population, are currently struggling with intense food insecurity. Alarmingly, over four million of these individuals are living in emergency famine conditions day and night.

This shocking statistic emerges alongside nations like Nigeria, Sudan, and Yemen, which hold higher ranks on the hunger index. International organizations warn that hunger is no longer a short-term emergency but a growing global challenge.
