The Ministry of Mines of the Taliban government has announced the signing of a major gold mining contract for the Qala e Zal district in Kunduz province. This significant agreement, partnered with domestic and international companies, is valued at over twenty million US dollars.
The five year project will be executed jointly by an Afghan company and a firm based in Azerbaijan. The contracting companies have committed to paying a thirty percent royalty to the Taliban government, while also investing hundreds of thousands of dollars into local social and community services.
Officials claim that the launch of this massive project will create direct and indirect employment opportunities for numerous local residents. However, many citizens and economic experts continue to express serious concerns regarding the lack of transparency in the country's mining contract processes.
