The World Food Programme has warned that women and children in Afghanistan are suffering the most from severe cuts in humanitarian funding. Ongoing economic challenges and the large influx of returning migrants have further worsened the humanitarian situation.

Following visits to eastern regions, UN officials reported that many mothers and children are turned away without nutritional supplements due to critical supply shortages. Nearly five million mothers and children in the country are currently facing severe malnutrition.

Rising global fuel prices and disrupted supply routes threaten to paralyze the organization's operations entirely. The World Food Programme urgently requires massive funding to sustain its vital life-saving activities over the next six months.
