Pakistani officials reported that an explosion in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has resulted in the deaths of at least three people. Among the victims was Malik Tariq Wazir, the influential chief of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe, while four others sustained injuries.
Local police stated that the blast occurred in the crowded Rustam Bazaar of Wana in South Waziristan. Unknown militants apparently planted explosives near a commercial plaza overnight, detonating them as the tribal leader's vehicle passed through the area.
The tragic incident has sparked widespread panic among local residents, forcing shopkeepers to temporarily close their businesses. Malik Tariq Wazir was previously known for his crucial role in resolving tribal disputes and maintaining peace in the region.
