The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in partnership with the World Bank, has launched a financial support program for agribusinesses in Afghanistan. This vital initiative aims to significantly boost agricultural production and create rural employment opportunities.
During the initial phase, five agricultural enterprises operating in Herat, Kapisa, Kunduz, Logar, and Takhar provinces were selected for funding. Notably, three of these pioneering companies are managed by female entrepreneurs, highlighting women's essential role in the national economy.
The designated funds will be used to establish soybean oil processing lines, solar-powered dairy centers, and modern saffron processing facilities. Richard Trenchard, the FAO representative, emphasized that their primary goal is bridging the gap between rural farmers and larger commercial markets.
