Security officials of the Taliban government have sorrowfully confirmed that a ten-year-old child has died after drowning in a deep water-filled pit in the Nazyan district of eastern Nangarhar province.
According to local reports, this brave young child initially jumped into the dangerous pit to successfully rescue another child who was struggling in the water. Tragically, after saving the other child's life, the young hero was unable to escape the pit and ended up drowning.
With the arrival of warmer weather, water levels in rivers and local pits across Afghanistan rise significantly. This seasonal environmental hazard repeatedly claims the lives of dozens of citizens every year, particularly threatening innocent children who play near these dangerous, unguarded water bodies.
