Mohammad Mehdi Nasehi, the CEO of Iran Health Insurance, stated that health insurance premiums for Afghan migrants with Amayesh cards are 80 percent higher than those for Iranian citizens. This significant price difference places a heavy financial burden on the refugee community.
He also emphasized that renewing the residency of legal foreign nationals living in Iran will be conditional upon paying this health insurance premium. All Amayesh cardholders must be covered by basic health insurance to maintain their legal residency status in the country.
Currently, less than 100,000 migrants with Amayesh cards receive insurance coverage for vulnerable populations with the financial support of the UN Refugee Agency. This new policy requires other migrants to pay the highly inflated approved rates themselves.
