Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk announced that the project to construct a railway through Afghanistan remains under active discussion. Despite ongoing security challenges in the region, the western route passing through Herat province is being thoroughly evaluated by officials.
Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, he stated that these plans are not limited solely to railway development. Other major infrastructure projects, including crucial pipelines and key transit roads, are also integral parts of these proposed regional development initiatives.
He emphasized that conflict situations have slowed the progress of these ambitious projects. Meanwhile, a delegation from the Taliban government is also actively participating in this major international economic gathering held in Russia to explore potential partnerships.
