Local sources have reported that forces of the Taliban government arrested a former army officer in Balkh province. The individual, identified as Ibrahim Safari, was detained in the Zari district by the counter-terrorism department.
It is reported that the Taliban government forces initially demanded a weapon from him before taking him from his home. Several days later, the family of this former military officer still has no information about his fate or whereabouts.
This arrest occurs as recent United Nations reports indicate that dozens of former security force members have been detained or killed. There are widespread concerns regarding human rights violations against former military personnel across the country.
