Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on World Refugee Day that 2.4 million Afghan migrants have been deported to Afghanistan since September 2023. He claimed the process was conducted in an orderly and dignified manner.

However, international organizations strongly criticize Pakistan for violating the rights of asylum seekers. Following the return to power of the Taliban government, forced deportations and arbitrary detentions of undocumented Afghans have significantly surged.

Amnesty International and the United Nations highlighted that Afghanistan is currently facing one of the most severe displacement crises in the world. Returning migrants often confront extreme hardships, family separations, and widespread human rights violations in their home country.
