The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum of the Taliban government has signed a salt mine extraction contract in Ghurian district of Herat province with a private company. The contract is valued at over five million dollars.
The mine covers an area of more than nine square kilometers, and the agreement is signed for a period of fifteen years. The contracting company is committed to investing in local development projects and creating jobs for dozens of individuals.
Following the reduction in international aid, the Taliban government is trying to increase its revenues through mining. However, economic experts have frequently expressed concerns about the lack of transparency in awarding mining contracts.
