Recent reports indicate that the suspension of several types of Iranian visas has fueled a black market in Herat. Visas are currently being sold for exorbitant prices ranging from 70,000 to 150,000 Afghanis.
Many Afghan citizens seeking employment opportunities in the neighboring country state they cannot afford these massive fees. One resident from Badghis province mentioned that if he had such money, he would start a business at home.
Sources confirm that the issuance of tourist, work, and medical visas is mostly halted. The ongoing economic crisis and severe unemployment leave many Afghans with no choice but to consider illegal migration routes.
