The United Nations has stated in its recent report that the Vice and Virtue agents of the Taliban government have significantly increased arbitrary detentions of Afghan citizens. These actions have created a widespread atmosphere of fear.
According to the quarterly report, three hundred and eighty nine men and women were arbitrarily arrested or detained between April and June. The report also highlights that sixty five of these detained individuals faced severe mistreatment.
The primary reasons for these harsh detentions include alleged violations of women's hijab, men's beard length or specific haircuts, and playing or listening to music in vehicles and other shared public spaces across the country.
