The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned that despite some security improvements in parts of Afghanistan, the humanitarian crisis continues to threaten millions. Border conflicts between October last year and end of June this year caused over 1,700 civilian casualties.
OCHA spokesperson Olga Cherevko said security alone cannot provide food, rebuild flood-damaged homes, or treat malnourished children. She added that child malnutrition has worsened in more than three-quarters of Afghanistan's districts.
Cherevko also warned about restrictions on women and girls, saying these measures are jeopardizing the futures of millions of Afghans and undermining the country's recovery.
