The Afghan Freedom Front claimed on Wednesday that its forces targeted Kunduz Airport with rockets, marking the second such claim in a week. The front had previously said on July 31 that it targeted Taliban helicopters at the same airport.
Sources had told Afghanistan International that Taliban forces gathered at the airport were the target, as they were set to be transported by helicopter to Badakhshan. No details on casualties or damage have been released so far.
Simultaneously, clashes lasting several hours were reported between Taliban forces and the Freedom Front in Zebak district of Badakhshan. Dawood Naji claimed that Freedom Front forces inflicted heavy casualties on the Taliban during the fighting.
