Three young men aged 21 to 22 drowned while swimming in the Lazir River in the village of Jozak, in central Daikundi province. Taliban police confirmed the victims were residents of the village of Nawa Chaharaspan in Shahrestan district.

Their bodies were recovered after two and a half hours of searching and handed over to their families. The tragic incident has once again raised concerns about safety near rivers and waterways across Afghanistan.

The Taliban's natural disaster management authority reported that 148 people have died from drowning in rivers across Afghanistan over the past year. This figure highlights drowning as one of the most significant preventable causes of death in the country.
