Human rights organization Rawadari stated in a report marking the fifth anniversary of the Taliban takeover that civil resistance by Afghan citizens, especially women and girls, has kept hope alive for a future based on human rights and dignity.
Rawadari released statistics showing that at least 6,929 civilians were killed or wounded between August 15, 2021 and December 31, 2025. At least 399 former government employees were targeted and killed extrajudicially. At least 6,043 citizens were arbitrarily detained, including 78 female protesters.
The organization also reported that Taliban courts punished at least 2,423 people through unlawful and cruel methods, including public executions and floggings. Rawadari called for continued documentation of human rights violations in Afghanistan.
