On the fifth anniversary of the Taliban's return to power, Afghans took to the streets in 28 cities worldwide, including London, Washington, Paris, Berlin, and Toronto.
Protesters called on the international community not to normalize relations with the Taliban and to formally recognize gender apartheid in Afghanistan. In several cities, hunger strikes and protest tents were also set up.
A large part of the events focused on the situation of Afghan women and girls and opposition to any official recognition of Taliban rule by world governments.
