The US Department of Justice announced that Afsarkhan Ahmadzai, a 30-year-old Afghan national, has been sentenced to 51 days in prison for illegally re-entering the United States from Canada.
Ahmadzai admitted during his guilty plea that on June 3, 2026, he crossed the international border on foot near Champlain, New York, without undergoing inspection by US Customs and Immigration authorities.
This comes as the United States has enforced stricter immigration policies in recent months, with the number of similar cases in American courts on the rise.
