The Taliban's Ministry of Interior announced that its anti-narcotics forces in Takhar province seized 116 kilograms of drugs hidden inside a vehicle and arrested two individuals in connection with the smuggling attempt.

Since returning to power, the Taliban banned poppy cultivation and claims opium production has sharply declined. However, reports from international organizations indicate that drug trafficking continues through the country's northern and eastern routes.

Takhar province, bordering Tajikistan, is considered one of the traditional drug smuggling routes into Central Asia, and Taliban forces have reported several drug seizures in the province in recent months.
