Today marks the 25th anniversary of the assassination of Ahmad Shah Massoud, the renowned Afghan commander. Massoud was killed on September 9, 2001, in Khwaja Bahauddin district of Takhar province.
He played a key role in the fight against the Soviet Union and later the Taliban. Former President Karzai and Abdullah Abdullah paid tribute to his efforts for national unity.
