Local Taliban officials in Herat have confirmed that three others lost their lives in a tragic incident in the Guzara district of the province. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, September 30th, in the "Nashin" area of Guzara district when the three others died inside a water well due to lack of oxygen and suffocation.

Qari Huzayfa, the Taliban's director for disaster preparedness in Herat, told the media that the three others were engaged in farming activities and had entered the well to draw water. According to him, the well was about eight to ten meters deep, and all three individuals suffocated after descending into it.

Meanwhile, local sources provide a more harrowing account of the event. According to these sources, one of the others initially went into the well for a task and got stuck due to a lack of oxygen. Subsequently, the other two others entered the well one after another to rescue him, and unfortunately, all three lost their lives in the attempt.

These sources added that the operation to retrieve the bodies of the three others continued until midnight, and their lifeless bodies were finally pulled from the well. The incident has caused deep sorrow among local residents.

Similar incidents resulting from gas poisoning and lack of oxygen in wells have claimed many lives in various parts of Afghanistan before. Experts say that carelessness, lack of awareness of the dangers in enclosed wells, and the absence of safety facilities and equipment are the main factors behind such deadly events.

Local officials have urged citizens to strictly observe safety precautions when working in and around wells to prevent the recurrence of such tragedies.
