Local sources from Nuristan province report that heavy clashes began on Wednesday morning, October 7, between Taliban forces and the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) in the Kamdish district of the province.
Nasratullah Fateh, a spokesman for the Afghanistan Freedom Front, confirmed the news, stating that the Taliban had launched extensive attacks on the front's positions. According to sources, these attacks were carried out using drones and heavy weapons.
Reports indicate that the clashes have been concentrated in the mountainous and rugged areas of Kamdish district. This district, which shares a border with Pakistan, has consistently been a center of activity for armed groups opposing the Taliban government due to its strategic location.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front is one of several armed groups that formed after the Taliban returned to power in August 2021. This front is mainly active in the northern and northeastern provinces of the country and occasionally organizes attacks against Taliban forces.
So far, no details about potential casualties from these clashes have been released by either side. The Taliban government has also not yet commented on the matter.
Today's clashes in Nuristan indicate the continuation of sporadic armed resistance against Taliban rule in parts of Afghanistan. Although the Taliban control the entire country, they still face security challenges from groups like the Freedom Front and the National Resistance Front.
