Senior Taliban officials from Afghanistan's southwestern provinces held a security meeting in Kandahar on Tuesday. The Kandahar governor's office announced on Wednesday, October 7, that the meeting was chaired by the Taliban's governor for Kandahar, Mullah Shirin.
Attendees included the Taliban governors from Kandahar, Helmand, Zabul, Uruzgan, and Daykundi provinces. The police chiefs, army corps commanders, intelligence chiefs, and heads of military courts from these provinces were also present.
According to a statement from the governor's office, the meeting emphasized the full implementation of decrees issued by the Taliban's supreme leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada. The officials were urged to make greater efforts to strengthen security.
Other topics discussed included preventing land grabbing, combating the cultivation, trafficking, and sale of narcotics, improving relations with the public, and increasing coordination between security and civilian institutions.
The Kandahar governor's office stated that decisions were made on security, economic, and social issues, but it did not provide any specific details about these decisions. During the meeting, the senior officials also presented security and civilian reports related to their respective provinces.
Mullah Shirin, the Taliban's governor in Kandahar, concluded the meeting by urging the officials to pay more attention to their duties and responsibilities. Similar regional meetings between governors and security officials have previously been held in other zones of Afghanistan.
