Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar passed away on Thursday morning, October 8, 2026, at the age of 75. He suffered a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. According to news agency ANI, Patekar was found unconscious at his home and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Doctors at Manipal Hospital attempted to revive him for approximately 45 minutes, but their efforts were unsuccessful, and he was declared dead at 5:20 a.m. "Despite 45 minutes of continuous CPR, he could not be revived. A medico-legal case (MLC) has been registered, and a post-mortem will be conducted," Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, told ANI.
The family and authorities have not yet released a detailed statement regarding the circumstances of his death. His sudden passing has left the Indian film industry and his fans worldwide in shock.
Patekar, whose real name is Vishwanath Patekar, was one of India's most acclaimed actors, known for his powerful performances in both Hindi and Marathi cinema. His career spanned several decades, and he gained widespread recognition for films such as *Parinda*, *Krantiveer*, *Ab Tak Chhappan*, and *Welcome*.
Throughout his career, he received numerous accolades, including three National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards, and multiple Maharashtra State Film Awards. In 2013, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri for his contributions to cinema and the arts.
Patekar's connection to the Indian Army extended beyond his film roles. He joined the Territorial Army as a captain in 1988. During the 1999 Kargil War, he served with the Maratha Light Infantry and eventually retired in 2013 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Born in Murud-Janjira in Maharashtra, Nana Patekar came from a Marathi family. He married Neelkanti Patekar in 1978, and they had two sons, Durvasa and Malhar. Their elder son, Durvasa, passed away at a young age. Patekar and his wife had been living separately for many years due to personal differences but remained legally married until his death.
