Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Pakistan's Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), has strongly condemned the declaration of a state of emergency and the imposition of "governor's rule" in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He described the federal government's move as a direct attack on democracy and the fundamental rights of the province's people.

In a press conference, Mr. Fazlur Rehman called this "the blackest day in the history of Pakistan's democracy." He stressed that removing an elected provincial government through such methods sets a dangerous precedent that could jeopardize the stability of the entire country.

The JUI-F leader announced that his party would challenge this "illegal and undemocratic" decision through all possible means. According to him, these actions will include approaching the Supreme Court to nullify the decision, as well as using parliamentary tools to pressure the federal government.

He added that this move demonstrates the desperation of the coalition government in Islamabad, which, instead of solving the people's problems, is seeking to suppress its political opponents. Fazlur Rehman called on all pro-democracy parties in Pakistan to unite against this action.

This stance comes even as Fazlur Rehman's JUI-F party has significant influence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and is traditionally a major rival to Imran Khan's PTI party in the region. However, in this particular case, he has stood with his political rival in defense of democratic principles.
